The Key to the Murder

A rare violin becomes the key to a murder...

Detective Chief Inspector Oldroyd has seen many victims of violent crime, but he has never witnessed a murder himself—until now. When world-renowned violinist Hans Müller is shot and killed during a chamber music concert in the northern English town of Halifax, the experienced detective faces a case that defies logic: the perpetrator has vanished without a trace, and Müller’s priceless Stradivarius violin has disappeared along with them.

In the search for the mysterious shooter and their motive, Oldroyd and his colleague, Sergeant Carter, enter the closed world of wealthy musical instrument collectors and the dark waters concealing horrific secrets from the past. It is there that the key to the entire mystery may lie.

Oldroyd and Carter must use all their wits to find the rare instrument. But can they also catch the murderer who, like a magician, vanished right before their eyes?

J. R. Ellis

J. R. Ellis comes from a working-class family, but that didn't stop him from graduating from Oxford University and becoming a teacher. He has always been interested in mysteries, the supernatural, and unsolved crimes, and during his teaching years, he wrote children's plays and ghost stories. However, it was only in retirement that he began to devote himself fully to writing. His Yorkshire Murder Mystery series is inextricably linked to the county where Ellis lives. He was inspired by the locked-room mysteries of Agatha Christie and John Dickson Carr, as well as the TV series Jonathan Creek. He believes that in detective novels, it's not just who committed the crime that's important, but also how they did it. Although he writes about murder, he avoids overly brutal scenes, preferring to emphasise a light style, elements of humour, and a well-thought-out plot.

Filip Jančík

He started out as an actor but decided to devote himself fully to voice-over work. That's why we can only see him in a few films or series. As a young actor, he appeared in films such as *Záhada hlavolamu* and *Vekslák aneb staré zlaté časy*. In contrast, Filip Jančík's voice is instantly recognisable, for example on the TV station Prima Cool or in an impressive number of Hollywood films and series.
