A new series of world-famous detective novelist Michael Connely
Michael Connelly became famous as the spiritual father of the legendary and distinctive detective Harry Bosch. He then created attorney Mickey Haller. And now she brings policewoman Renee Ballard to the genre.
Renée is similar in many ways to Harry: when she feels there is a right on her side, she goes stubbornly against the rules, even if she is to hurt herself. Her career was not at all beneficial when she wrote a complaint to her boss - she was reassigned to a night shift where she merely takes over cases, but never resolves them, because her colleagues will take them over in the morning.
One day, however, he encounters two cases with which he does not want to say goodbye. A hideously beaten prostitute was found in the underground garage, and a young woman was murdered in a nightclub. There's something wrong with Ballard. All her police instincts come to life. So he decides to go against the rules.
Despite the orders of his superiors and the wishes of his partner, he embarks on a search on his own and soon discovers that she was not mistaken in her suspicions. She finds herself on a truly thin edge, yet she is determined to bring her intention to the end, no matter how many sticks her bosses are throwing under her feet.
