The Sirui Saturn 35mm T2.9 uses an anamorphic optical design with constant 1.6× image compression. After desqueezing, wide-angle film aspect ratios are created without the need to crop the image, making maximum use of the sensor area. Typical features of the lens include oval bokeh, accentuated separation of the subject from the background, and horizontal light flares that give the shots an authentic cinematic character.
Lens optical design and image quality
The optical system of the lens consists of 18 elements in 13 groups and is designed with an emphasis on minimal distortion, high sharpness in the centre of the image and aberration control. The lens is optimised to avoid unwanted changes in the shape of the face when refocusing, the so-called "face shape".
