WD 2.5" My Passport Ultra 2TB Silver
The WD My Passport Ultra external drive is for storing and transferring data on its 2TB 2.5" platter storage. Its partially metal construction contributes to its mechanical durability during frequent travel. It uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface with a USB-C connector for data transfers. The package includes Acronis True Image for Western Digital software, which offers automated backups and protection against ransomware. The security of your stored files is enhanced by 256-bit AES hardware encryption, which you activate by setting a password to prevent unauthorised access.

Modern connectivity with USB-C
Connect the drive to your computer via the USB-C connector, whose reversible design means you don't have to worry about plugging it in the right way up. The USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, with a transfer speed of up to 5Gb/s, accelerates the moving of large files like high-resolution videos or extensive photo galleries. This ensures data transfers are smooth and without long waits. The package includes an adapter that converts the connector from USB-C to the older USB-A type. This accessory solves the problem of connecting the drive to other devices that don't have a USB-C port.
Metal design and construction
The partially metal body construction increases resistance to shocks and wear and tear from frequent transport. The metal surface protects the internal components while also helping to dissipate heat generated during operation. Effective cooling maintains low operating temperatures even under prolonged load, such as when backing up a large amount of data. The plastic parts of its casing are made from over 50% post-consumer recycled plastic. This approach limits the consumption of primary raw materials, reduces the carbon footprint associated with production, and contributes to less plastic waste.
Security and ransomware protection
The drive secures your stored data with 256-bit AES hardware encryption. You can activate the encryption by setting a password in the included software. Since the encryption process takes place directly on the drive's hardware, it doesn't burden your computer's performance or affect data transfer speeds. If the drive is lost or stolen, the content remains inaccessible and protected from misuse. The Acronis True Image software includes a module for active protection against ransomware. This technology monitors computer processes in real time and looks for suspicious activity. If a threat is detected, it blocks the malicious process and immediately restores the affected files from a secure backup. This feature adds another layer of security for data on both your computer and the external drive.
Automatic backup
The included Acronis True Image for Western Digital software is used to set up an automated backup process. In the application, you can choose to back up individual files and folders or create a complete system image. You can schedule backups at regular intervals, such as daily or weekly, and they will run in the background without needing your assistance.
My Passport Ultra compatibility
The drive works out of the box with the NTFS file system for Windows 10 and newer operating systems. For users of computers with macOS 11 and higher, the manufacturer has provided a driver for download. This driver enables full read and write functionality on the drive without needing to reformat it, maintaining direct file exchange between both platforms.
