The Alpine CDE-178BT high-definition, bright, high-resolution LCD looks great at first glance. It occupies a large area on the front panel and displays crisp readable text and graphics. All settings and music information can be read more easily even when the car is in the dark or light. The exclusive design is supported by a Quad Illumination four-colour backlight, which makes it possible to choose from four colour schemes: red, green, blue or yellow. If you select one, all buttons change colour. Easily align the appearance of the car radio with the rest of the interior.

The car radio offers a rear USB port with a high current output of 1A. With this, you can connect external hard drives to your radio and play back their content, as well as quickly recharge a wide range of smartphones and music players, including the iPhone. The car radio also lets you play music directly from your iPhone/iPod via USB. You can also switch to Direct Control mode and control playback directly from your iPod/iPhone display. In addition, you can play music from optical discs, radio, and line input.

When you download TuneIt and connect your iPhone via USB or your Android phone via Bluetooth, you're ready to use your phone as a practical interface to get exactly the sound you want in your car. If you're on Facebook, your app will also alert you to new messages on your phone and on the main unit.

The car radio is equipped with Bluetooth Plus. This convenient feature connects your phone wirelessly so you can listen to all your music and control the sound from personal web radio stations such as Spotify, TuneIn, AUPEO, Last FM and Audible. With the built-in microphone, you can also turn your car radio into a hands-free handset in a matter of seconds. If your car has a start-stop system, this model becomes even more interesting, because it stops playing when you turn off the engine at the junction.

Bluetooth Plus lets you hold and switch 2 incoming calls. Five echo reduction presets increase voice quality. Various icons like battery and mobile reception make it easy to navigate. The new features also include automatic phonebook update and easy directory search in alphabetical order. You can also quickly scroll through contacts in the phonebook or search by name. Simultaneously with the content playback, song, artist, and ID3 tag information is supported.

You can visit the iTunes store, download the vTuner Alpine iPhone app connect your iPhone to the main unit, and launch the application. Internet radio is instantly available at your fingertips! You can find stations in a variety of ways, such as country, city, local station and genre, with convenient control of both the main unit and the iPhone.

The car uses a reliable 4x 50W amplifier. It also offers pre-amplified outputs for additional front and rear speakers and a subwoofer. When connecting additional speakers, you can also set the Upper/Lower Passes to perfectly balance the frequency reproduction characteristics.

The main unit has an integrated equaliser with 10 preset modes . You can quickly switch between the sound selection settings you prefer for your listening music type. There is also a 9-band parametric equaliser for your own customised audio.
