The AXAGON PCES-SJ2 internal PCIe SATA controller efficiently expands your desktop PC with two high-speed SATA III ports, offering transfer speeds of up to 6Gb/s. The card installs into a free PCI-Express slot on the motherboard and, thanks to the PCIe 3.0 1-Lane interface, achieves a bidirectional throughput of up to 2GB/s. It is fully compatible with older bus versions and wider x4, x8 and x16 slots. The controller is based on the Jmicron JMB582 chipset, which manages reliable data transfer and supports all types of SATA drives and optical drives without any capacity limitations. Full Plug and Play support simplifies installation.
Getting the card up and running is straightforward thanks to full Plug and Play support. In most modern operating systems, such as MS Windows 7 to 11, Windows Server, or Linux with kernel 2.6.x and higher, the drivers install automatically. This eliminates the need for manual software search and installation. The package includes two backplates for different case types – one standard and one low-profile. This allows the card to be fitted into both standard towers and compact SFF builds.
The controller is fully compliant with the Serial ATA AHCI specification, which contributes to its high performance. It also implements key technologies for modern storage. The TRIM function limits the gradual performance degradation of SSDs by informing the drive about unused data blocks. For hard drives, there is support for Native Command Queuing, which optimises the execution order of commands and increases efficiency. The card also works with the Port Multiplier function, which, when used with an appropriate hub, multiplies the number of connectable devices.
Two internal 7-pin SATA connectors operate at transfer speeds of up to 6Gb/s and are backward compatible with the older SATA II 3Gb/s and SATA I 1.5Gb/s standards. This confirms seamless cooperation with all generations of SSDs, hard drives and optical drives. The controller also supports booting from a connected drive, so you can use it as the primary storage for your operating system. This feature is useful, for example, if the SATA ports on your motherboard fail. The Hot-Plug function further enhances flexibility, as it lets you connect and disconnect devices while the system is running without a restart.
