The D-LINK DES-1210-28 is a part of the 3rd generation WebSmart switches that are able to integrate advanced management and security features, high performance and wide scalability. It's easy to use and provides complete and affordable solutions for small and medium businesses. The innovative design is built into a 19" metal case and provides silent operation without a fan. The switch has 24 10/100Mbit/s ports, which are complemented by two SFP ports and two fast 10/100/1000Mbit/s ports.
All ports support an automatic transfer and MDI/MDIX crossover settings, so there is no need to use cross-linked cables or special uplink ports. This solution makes connecting large PCs easy and inexpensive. Gigabit uplinks throughput up to 2000Mbps in Full Duplex mode then provide high-speed data connectivity to servers or backbone networks with minimal downtime during data transfer.
The innovative features of the D-Link Safeguard Engine protect the switch from overflow by unwanted traffic caused by virus attacks. In addition, the switch supports access control lists (ACLs) and 802.1X port authentication via external RADIUS servers. The IP-MAC-port link allows the administrators to track the location of IP addresses by linking the source IP address to the appropriate MAC address and source port. To further increase security, DHCP Server Screening1 is available to filter pirated DHCP server packets from user ports to prevent unauthorized IP address allocation.
The D-LINK DES-1210-28 is great companion when it comes to deploying VoIP because it supports Auto Voice VLAN and QoS Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) for VoIP applications. Auto Voice VLAN will automatically transfer voice traffic from the IP phone to the assigned VLAN to improve the operation of VoIP services. With higher priority and dedicated VLAN, this feature guarantees high-quality and secure VoIP traffic. DSCP refers to the IP packet part, allowing different service levels to be assigned to the network traffic. By using bandwidth control, the network administrator can reserve a certain bandwidth for important features that require higher bandwidth or higher priority.
The switch features a full set of L2 features including IGMP Snooping, Port Mirroring, Spanning Tree, and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). Network maintenance features include Loopback Detection and Cable Diagnostics. Loopback Detection is used to detect loops created by a particular port and automatically disconnects the affected port. Cable diagnostics are used by network administrators to quickly test the quality of metallic cables as well as determining the type of cable defect.
The D-Link DGS-1210-10 will delight its owner with SmartConsole feature, which allows administrators to easily locate several D-Link Web Smart switches in the same L2 network segment: switches are displayed on the screen and can be accessed immediately. With this utility, it's easy to configure the default Smart Switch settings, so users do not need to change their PC's IP address. With the switches found, it is also possible to make extensive changes to the configuration settings, including password changes and firmware upgrades.
