Electrostimulation as a Modern Therapy

Electrostimulation is a modern therapeutic method that can be applied to both muscles and nerves, as well as to smooth muscles (typically, for example, in cardiology). It helps with blood circulation, relieving muscle tension, improving muscle function and strength, as well as acute and chronic pain. It uses electrostimulators for the treatment of patients. They generate low-frequency electronic pulses that are passed through the electrodes onto the skin of the patient. We distinguish between two methods of electrostimulation - direct and indirect. Each is used for other therapeutic purposes.

EMS - Electrical muscle stimulation

Direct electrical stimulation of EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) consists in the stimulation of the electrical impulses directly by the muscle, a representative of the striated muscle tissue. The pulse for muscle contraction in this case does not come from the brain, but from the electrostimulator. It is actually artificial stimulation of the muscle by electrical impulses. However, the muscle responds to the stimulus in quite the same way. There is no distinction as to whether the impulse comes from the brain or the external environment.  The EMS method has been widely used in healthcare, for example in the rehabilitation of injuries of the locomotor system. Electrostimulation of muscles, however, is also commonly used to shape the figure, to increase physical fitness or, on the contrary, to regenerate muscle tissue after great physical exertion. TENS - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

Indirect Electrostimulation TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) stimulates motor nerve cells. It uses the fact that nerve stimulation releases endorphins that relieve pain and relax tissue. Stimulating nervous tissues with electrical impulses, usually around the painful area, leads to an increased production of natural substances that the body itself produces against pain. This method of electrostimulation thus helps alleviate or completely suppress pain perception. It helps patients not only in acute pain after injuries, but also in chronic pains of the spine, joints, tendons, head, etc. The method of indirect electrostimulation is gentle, clinically proven and can effectively help reduce the amount of medication used by the patient.
