The Eaton 5E 900 USB FR Gen2 UPS provides protection for sensitive electronics from power outages and unstable mains quality. With a real power output of 480W and an apparent power of 900VA, this line-interactive UPS is suitable for powering computers, workstations or small network components. Its topology with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) actively stabilises the output voltage and responds to both undervoltage and overvoltage within a wide range of 140–300V without switching to battery. For home or office use, its fanless design is key, delivering completely silent operation with no distracting noises. An integrated USB communication interface handles management and status monitoring, while a pair of French standard (FR) sockets are available for connecting your devices.

Voltage regulation

The line-interactive topology with double-boost technology and automatic voltage regulation (AVR) actively stabilises the output voltage. The system continuously monitors the input voltage, correcting both undervoltage and overvoltage without needing to switch to battery power. Thanks to its wide input range of 140–300V, the UPS conserves internal battery capacity for complete power outages. The backup power supply achieves an efficiency of 95% at full load, which reduces operating costs and waste heat generation.

Operating modes and certification

The UPS supports a cold start function, which starts the UPS and powers connected devices directly from the battery, even when no mains input power is available. The battery recharges continuously as long as the UPS is connected to the mains, even when switched off. This mechanism keeps the battery ready for immediate use in the event of a sudden power cut. The product meets international safety requirements, as evidenced by external certification from TÜV in the form of a CB report.

Silent operation and efficiency

The design of this UPS prioritises silent operation, which is crucial for use in home studies and offices. Up to a power rating of 1200VA, the UPS models do not have an active fan, eliminating any disruptive noise during standard operation. The absence of moving parts also reduces the risk of mechanical failure. Compact dimensions of 148×100×288mm and a weight of 5.3kg make it easy to place the tower-style UPS under a desk or next to a computer case. A high efficiency of 95% at full load contributes to lower waste heat generation, which is why active cooling is not necessary. Two FR-standard output sockets, common in many European countries, are available for connecting protected devices. The integrated USB communication interface is used for integration with power management systems and for monitoring the UPS status. This, in conjunction with the Eaton UPS Companion software, enables safe system shutdown.
