Memory Module Designed for Power Systems, Servers, and Multiprocessor Computers with ECC Registered Technology Support. ECC technology checks transparently and in real time the integrity of data stored in memory. It can find and fix the error in one bit and detect the error in two bits. Some memory controllers can also repair larger-scale errors in conjunction with the ECC memory. Most server boards require memory with ECC support.
This memory module that supports the ECC Registered technology is designed for powerful systems, servers, and multiprocessor computers. The ECC technology performs transparent real-time checks of the integrity of data stored in the memory. It can find and fix an error in one bit and detect it in two bits. Some memory controllers are also able to repair large-scale errors when cooperating with ECC memory. Most server boards require memory with ECC support.
Registered memories are equipped with a custom controller that controls access to individual memory modules, making it easier for the memory controller to work on the board or processor. The memory behaves externally as a single module - the register chip - which takes care of writing and reading and from individual memory cells and transfers the results of these operations to the controller. This increases the efficiency of memory access and processing speed even when multiple memory modules are used at the same time.
The memory has four individually addressable areas (memory rank). Most server chipsets have a limited memory rank or a specified slot configuration for individual slots, so you need to check this data for future upgrades - if the memory rank on your motherboard is full, you cannot add another module, even if there are free memory slots.
Memory modules with "x8" chip organization are more affordable. However, they do not support advanced server technologies, such as multiple-bit error correction, Chipkill, memory scrubbing, or Intel Single Device DataCorrection (SDDC), which makes them ideal for entry-level servers.
