Intel is a world-renowned company that does not need any special introductions. For years, it has been one of the world's largest processor and chips manufacturers. Now, Intel is introducing a new, extremely powerful processor for servers and classic desktop system. It was designed to handle extreme computational requirements and reliability in 24/7 non-stop operation. This processor is designed for motherboards equipped with the new modern LGA2011-3 socket.

Cutting-edge technology

The processor features 12 physical cores and belongs to the modern Haswell series. It uses a 22nm manufacturing process with the tri-gate 3D transistor technology. New  Instruction Set Architecture has been added to offer more power at the same clock speed. Each core runs at 2.5GHz, with the optional Turbo mode and automatic overclocking bringing the clock speed to an impressive 3.3GHz if needed. As with the previous generation, the memory controller is integrated directly into the chip. It is a four-channel DDR4 memory controller that can operate at up to 2133MHz. The CPU cache is up to 30MB.

This technology can overclock the busy cores or turn off those that are currently idle. Overclocking is done by changing the multiplier. Each core has its own multiplier, so there may be a situation where two cores will be turned off and the remaining cores will be running at a different frequency each.

Virtualisation

Brilliant technology used by almost every server processor. It gives you an option to combine the existing user environment with virtual environment. This means you can easily run several independent operating systems on a single machine. This makes it very effective if you want to resolve software compatibility issues on newer operating systems. It also includes the latest Intel VT-d virtualisation support that adds support for I/O devices in a virtualised environment.

The processor includes Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology that allows you to reduce power consumption at times when the full power is simply not needed.

The processor’s TDP (Thermal Design Power) as specified by the manufacturer is 120W. This model is supplied in a box packaging and does not include a heatsink.
