The highest quality whole milk

Kendamil milk comes only from cows grazing freely on green meadows in the Lake District.

From the pristine nature of the Lake District

The British Lake District National Park is known for its endless crystal lakes and unspoilt nature. Kendamil is produced in this beautiful area.

Controlled by the strictest Red Tractor regulations

Food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection are the main criteria of this organization. The entire production process is carefully monitored from the farm to the packaging.

The highest royal award

Kendamil' s maker, Kendal Nutricare, has been awarded the Queen' s Award for Enterprise for 2020, the highest possible award given to British companies. And the queen herself.

What do you often ask us?

DHA (or docosahexaenoic acid) is a ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid. They are very important for infants during the growing season, but the organism cannot create them itself and so they must be ingested through food. DHA is one of the basic building blocks of the nervous system and the brain, as well as the retina of the eye, thus influencing their function and development.
Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/127 of 25 September 2015 stipulated that from February 2020 all infant formulas and follow-on formulas (except those produced from hydrolysed proteins, to which the Regulation applies from February 2021) must contain 20-50 mg DHA / 100 kcal. Arachidonic acid (AA) has remained an optional component, however their ratio is recommended to be 1: 1 or 1: 2. The new line of infant formulas and follow-on formulas Kendamil fully complies with these recommendations, contains an increased amount of substances called DHA * and AA *, and in addition DHA is from the oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. (T18). * compared to the previous line of Kendamil baby food
Most UM available on our market contains skim milk and vegetable fats. There are many reasons and one of them is the effort to save. Kendamil milk is made from whole cow' s milk, it does not contain palm oil, fish oil, soy or GMOs.
We investigated why all infant formula using skim milk contains 25-30% vegetable fats, when these fats are primarily used for cooking and soap making. Breast milk contains more than 51% saturated animal fats. 20 years ago, infant formulas also contained whole milk. We asked: “Why has that changed?“ And we got the answer: “To save money.“ Our findings and further research have led us to return to whole milk with less oil. It will not be, quite the opposite. Your baby in Kendamil milk will receive all the necessary nutrients, as it is made to be as close as possible to breast milk. Whole milk contains 26% fat and 74% protein. Current studies show that excessive protein intake in infancy increases the burden on the kidneys and can lead to the risk of being overweight and obese in later life. Source: Vanderhout SH. et al. Whole milk compared with reduced-fat milk and childhood overweight: a systematic review and meta-analysis AJCN 2020; 111 (2): 266-279
Both series - both classic and BIO series - are made from whole cow' s milk. BIO or Organic milk comes from local BIO farms, which are smaller and have an organic certificate. These organic farms are more environmentally friendly and use only organic fertilizers, cows move here for up to 200 days a year on open pastures.
Not suitable for children with cow' s milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance. Kendamil does not contain palm oil, fish oil, GMOs or soy. Animal fat is much more digestible than vegetable fats. Source: Delplanque B & Baudry C (2015) Dairy fat in infant formula. Eur J Lipid Sci Technol 117: 1487–1488
A review of evidence from nine studies has also shown that the use of palm olein (a liquid component of palm oil) in infant formulas can have unintended consequences, including reduced intestinal absorption of fats and calcium. The use of palm oil would not necessarily be ethical, especially as it can promote the massive deforestation of native forests in areas where oil palm is grown. Resources: Koo WW (2006) Palm olein in the fat blend of infant formulas: effect on theintestinal absorption of calcium and fat, and bone mineralization. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) - omega 3 acid is obtained from seaweed oil. While most people believe that fish produce their own omega-3 acids, it is algae in their diet that makes them a rich source of these acids. This alternative to fish oil is sourced from renewable and sustainable sources, helping to save the world' s precious seafood supplies. The manufacturer does not intentionally give probiotics to milk due to the lack of convincing evidence of the benefits of adding probiotics to infant milk. The evidence available to date on the beneficial effects of infant formulas supplemented with probiotics on infant health comes mainly from individual studies and studies with methodological limitations, or in the case of several comparable studies, the results are inconsistent. Therefore, EFSA (Commission for Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies) states that there is insufficient information to draw clear conclusions on the beneficial effects of probiotic strains added to infant formulas and follow-on formulas. There is evidence that the viability of bacteria in common forms of supplements (capsule / capsule diets) decreases relatively quickly before the end of the declared shelf life (usually 24 months) to values where the desired effects can no longer be expected. We therefore recommend adding probiotic droplets separately to the milk. They can be purchased quite commonly at any pharmacy. However, even with them, it is necessary to pay attention to the date of production. Resources: EFSA Opinion on the essential composition of infant and follow-on formulae.
