The compact Korg Volca Modular synthesizer body contains eight modules and 50 connection points. It consists of independent analogue synth modules, digital effects and a sequencer. The modules are interconnected so they reproduce sound before you use the included interconnecting cables. Interconnect cables have higher priority than internal interconnects and are disabled once connected. The compact size, battery operation and built-in speaker mean you can take this instrument anywhere and enjoy playing anytime.
"West Coast" style synthesizers are based on an FM modulated oscillator generating a lot of harmonic frequencies and low-pass gate circuitry, so even a subtle knob movement can dramatically affect the sound.
The volca modular modules are connected with the included cable pins, allowing a wide range of combinations. The compact instrument body has 50 connection points. Inputs and outputs are colour coded so you can identify them at a glance, and signals are also marked with symbols for audio, control, gate or trigger. Normally each signal is interconnected according to its application, but on the volca modular the signal levels are universally compatible between modules, which opens up hidden possibilities when interconnecting in a different way. Included in the package are twenty pin cables, as well as a reference letter explaining each connection point with connection examples.
Using the 16 buttons familiar from the volca series, you can insert steps or play them like a keyboard and record in real time. The pattern chaining feature plays multiple sequential patterns in sequence, allowing you to chain up to 16 sequences with 32, 64, or up to 256 steps to create a spectacular evolution. The motion sequence feature records knob movements so you can add time changes to the sound. Create loops, or use this feature live in surprising, original performances. You can store up to 16 sequential patterns and sounds in the instrument. There's also an active step function that lets you play while skipping steps you specify. You can skip the second half and play a shortened loop, use alternate METRUM to create polyrhythms, develop sequential patterning in real time, and create dynamic performances.
