The Calma system is the easiest way to switch from breast to bottle and back. It contains a special tube similar to the shape and size of the nipple, a ventilation system that drains excess air and a special membrane that prevents the spontaneous flow of milk.
The transition from breast to bottle and back has never been easier! The Medela Calma system helps to extend the period of breastfeeding your baby. Calma is equipped with a specially shaped nipple that corresponds to the shape and size of the natural nipple that the baby is already accustomed without any pronounced difference. The diaphragm is equipped with a valve that prevents the spontaneous flow of milk in order for the baby to suck out the milk from the bottle. In addition, the ventilation system ensures that excess air is drain out of the bottle and the baby does not suffer from bloating when sucking the milk. With this, you can now enjoy a sense of peace and freedom when breastfeeding is not possible.
For the first time, give your baby milk using the Calma system of another adult, not a mother.
Hold your baby in a different position than when breastfeeding, changing the baby's position will help distinguish between drinking Calma milk and breastfeeding.
Prior to the initiation of milk, soak the tip of the Calma silicone teat into the aspirated breast milk.
Hold the Calma system at an inclination angle of approximately 45 degrees relative to the lower lip of the baby. In order for the child to open his mouth wide enough to grasp the nipple properly, it is necessary to stimulate his lip as in breastfeeding.
When the child opens his mouth, put Calma System on the tip of his tongue. Do not push the nipple into the child's mouth, the baby pulls the Calma system into the mouth as much as it needs, just as it has been taught with the nipple of the breast. For administering the milk, the Calma system is placed in the position the child chooses to keep the milk while the baby is being fed.
In order for the child to affect the flow of milk, it must create a vacuum just as with breastfeeding. Pulling or pushing the Calma system into the mouth would disrupt this process. The child could also start to swallow.
