2010: second space odyssey
Discovery is still sailing through space.
An international crew is heading to the spacecraft Discovery to not only investigate the cause of the crash, but more importantly to investigate the mysterious space object.
"Sorry to interrupt the festivities, but we have a problem," Hal, the onboard computer, says to the crew of the spaceship Discovery in the first episode of Clark's famous Space Odyssey. Fourteen years later, the famous visionary wrote a sequel that is just as readable as the first book. Discovery sails through space with Commander David Bowman on board, the only survivor of the ship's crash. The Alexei Leonov spacecraft is approaching with an international American-Soviet crew, tasked with reaching the planetary system of Jupiter, rendezvousing with Discovery, restoring its on-board systems, determining the cause of the tragedy and, most importantly, investigating the mysterious monolith moving in space. Clarke describes the dramatic events culminating in the explosion of Jupiter in a gripping narrative style, and the reader is chilled by the scientific lucidity with which he describes the discoveries that astrophysics would not reach until many years later.
