3x Cadfael

Life taught him divine humility. That is why he became the kindest detective of the Middle Ages!

He travelled the world far and wide, including as a crusader in the Levant, but this kindly Welshman retired to live among the Benedictines in Shrewsbury, England. But even the 12th century is not immune to murder, and so Cadfael does more than just grow herbs for his ailing neighbours. Whether it's a murder over holy relics, the case of an extra corpse of a prisoner of war, or the inheritance of a poisoned landowner, the observant monk proves his gift for seeing clues in context. And with faith in heavenly justice, he overcomes all evil.

This bundle contains the following titles:
(1) A Morbid Taste for Bones
(2) One Corpse Too Many
(3) Monk's Hood

Ellis Peters

Ellis Peters

(1913–1995) This was the pseudonym used by the British writer of Welsh origin, Edith Mary Pargeter, for her forays into genre literature – most notably the twenty Brother Cadfael mysteries, published between 1977–1994. The creator of the 12th-century Benedictine detective, who investigates in her native West English county of Shropshire and was adapted into a BBC series starring Derek Jacobi, became famous primarily for her historical prose exploring the mentality of the supposedly “dark” Middle Ages. The pinnacle of her work is the novel trilogy The Heaven Tree (1960), The Green Branch (1962), and The Scarlet Seed (1963). In Britain, the author also made a name for herself not only with her books featuring Inspector Felse, but also as a Bohemist and a promoter of our culture, which had fascinated her since her first visit to Czechoslovakia in 1947, as evidenced by the novel Fair Young Phoenix (1948) and the travelogue The Coast of Bohemia (1950). She translated works by Jan Neruda and Bohumil Hrabal, among others, into English. A year before her death, the recipient of top industry honours (the Edgar Allan Poe Award, the Cartier Diamond Dagger, etc.) was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
