Twenty-six-year-old Émile has only two years to live and he knows it. The doctors have pronounced the verdict of premature Alzheimer's disease upon him, and he wishes for one thing: To escape the hospital and the pity of his family and friends, to embark on a journey and stay on it until his last breath. He's looking for someone to accompany him through the advert.
To his own surprise, he gets his answer and meets the mysterious Joanne, a young woman who takes her time to explain what she is running away from. And so begins their journey, which will astonish the reader with its beauty. Every bit of the journey, every encounter with a new person is an opportunity to discover oneself. All kinds of emotions penetrate the shell of Émile's pain and he (and not only he) has no choice but to look for a new inner balance and a way to face the inevitable.
Mélissa Da Costa writes tenderly and kindly, vividly and addictively: once it gets the reader's attention, it won't let go. Accurate dialogue, interesting and well-drawn characters - these are its strengths, as well as unexpected and emotional denouements.
All blue from the sky is her first novel, published at the age of twenty-eight, for which she won the Alain Fournier Award for Emerging Writers and the Grand Prix du Livre de Poche 2020 Readers' Prize.
