Everyone in Wakarusa remembers the old case of January Jacobs. Margot was six at the time, as was January. She has long since lived elsewhere and is a journalist, but she has always been haunted by the fear that she could have died instead. When she heads home to help care for her uncle, it' s like stepping back in time. Wakarusa remained the same: suffocating and secretive. And then, under eerily similar circumstances, five-year-old Natalie disappears from the next town over. All the old feelings come back to Margot and she swears to find the little girl and find out what happened all those years ago. But it seems that the police, the family, and the local residents are hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs, the more resistance she encounters. But her determination to finally find out the truth is all the greater.
