An Unusual Interest in Corpses

The first book in the classic English detective series starring Lizzie Martin

In 1864, Lizzie Martin accepts a position as companion to a wealthy widow, the owner of houses in a slum district. Lizzie is intrigued to discover that her predecessor disappeared, presumably having eloped with an unknown man.

But when a body is found in the rubble of recently demolished houses in a part of the slums directly adjacent to the prestigious new St Pancras station, Lizzie begins to wonder what really happened to the girl. She teams up with a childhood friend, now a police inspector, Benjamin Ross, and with his help, she begins to investigate the case. Lizzie risks her life, but she wants to find out the truth about the death of the girl, whose fate seems to be intertwined with her own.
