Ash in hair

The year is 1944. Nineteen-year-old Helena is torn from the safety of her native village and taken to Steyr, Austria – a world of black soot, wailing sirens, and factories where human life is worth less than the dust on your shoes. Among the other forced labourers, she learns to survive the harsh conditions of a work camp that manufactures parts for the Luftwaffe. And while she flees into the dark forests and overcrowded shelters during air raids, she begins to realise a simple truth: nothing is certain, least of all the next morning.

In the midst of war, where any day could be the last, the strongest friendships, the bravest decisions, and the deepest scars are born…
along with secrets that weigh on a person long after the final shots have faded.
