In the basin of the Istros River, which many centuries later would be called the Danube, the Bronze and Gold Ages reigned. And also amber, a highly prized commodity for merchants from the South Seas. But not only for them. The Trojan prince Podarkes arrives in the barbarian lands north of Istria. He is determined to obtain a treasure here, which will redeem his hometown from the clutches of the Mycenaean assassin Heracles. It soon becomes apparent that this is a task beyond the power of one man.
Fortunately, Podarkés gains allies in the warrior Asterius with a mysterious, dark past, the young oracle Sycora, who is able to speak with the gods, and the valiant Prince Sokol. So it seems that the battle for the treasure cannot end except in victory. Only Podarkes doesn't know that a black ship Argo, with a deck full of the most feared Greek cutthroats, has entered Istria on the run from the Colchid fleet...
In his new novel, Juraj Červenák has gone much further into the past than in the Slavic epics The Black Priest, The Godfather and Bivoj. Even this heroic fantasy, however, remains linked to our ancient ancestors and places familiar to Czech and Slovak readers. In our country, too, there were rulers, heroes and femmes fatales in the Bronze Age, strikingly similar to those whose stories were recorded by Homer.

Juraj (Ďuro) Červenak, pseudonym Thorleif Larssen (* June 16, 1974, Žiar nad Hronom, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak writer. Practically all of his books were published in Czech for commercial reasons. After the successful series The Adventures of Captain Bathory, his sequel novel Rattlesnake Callahan and the Ghost Gate began to be published in the Fortress.
