One cold February day, the lights go out in Italy. And not just there. A moment later in Sweden, then in Germany, France, Austria, Belgium and Holland. Across Europe, the power grid is collapsing, lifts stop working, and underground trains are stranded in tunnels. Piero Manzano, an Italian ex-hacker and programmer, believes he knows who is responsible and tries to inform the authorities. But no one believes him. Only François Bollard, a French commissioner at Europol, is willing to listen.

But when Lauren Shannon, a young and attractive journalist, discovers that suspicious emails have been sent from Piero's computer, she starts asking awkward questions, and Bollard begins to suspect him. Manzano finds himself up against a cunning and invisible adversary, and he becomes the hunted. Meanwhile, the situation in the streets is becoming increasingly dramatic. Nothing in Europe seems to be working. Several European nuclear power plants are in a critical state, threatening the lives of millions. The race against time begins.
