The publication provides a comprehensive overview of the current view of cardiovascular diseases in the female sex and thus fills a current gap in the Czech medical literature. The book is intended especially for general practitioners, internists and cardiologists. But gynaecologists will also find interesting information here. Overall, cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in both sexes. Overall, more women than men die of cardiovascular disease worldwide (in absolute and relative terms). The aim of this publication is to draw attention to this fact, which largely contradicts the generally accepted view that women are at lower risk of cardiovascular disease than men. The publication shows the reserves in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in women and, among other information, provides current views on the relationship of estrogens to the development of atherosclerosis and new developments in hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women.
