While investigating the death of a young boy killed in a hit-and-run, Seattle Homicide Detective Tracy Crosswhite makes a startling discovery: the suspect is an active-duty serviceman from the local naval base. After a key piece of evidence goes missing, he is cleared at a preliminary hearing. But despite all the pressure, Tracy knows she can't turn her back on such an injustice.

When the investigation reveals the driver's ties to the Seattle underworld, Tracy realises this isn't just a case of the army protecting one of its own. It's much deeper, more entangled, and more sinister, and the investigation suggests the accused did not act alone. For Tracy, who this time must manage without her partner Kins, it's all too personal.

The closer she gets to uncovering the truth about the insidious conspiracy, the more she exposes herself to mortal danger. And betrayal may be lurking closer than she's willing to admit.
