Confession: from the orphanage to the catwalks
This confession was written from a desire to change the world for the better. To try and contribute, even in a small way, to making just a few children happier – and that's a damn good reason to publish and read this book. In the author's own words: “I am convinced that I was in a children's home and went through all those moments precisely so that today I can understand other abandoned children and offer them help. I am one of them, and although there are undoubtedly children with more powerful or sadder stories, I believe my book will get even just one child to stand up and say: ‘It doesn't matter who my mother or father is, what matters is WHO I AM!’” Today, Veronika is a young woman, and you would hardly guess the life she has lived. After several harsh years with a drug-addicted mother, she found herself in a children's home, where she spent her entire childhood and adolescence. Can you imagine what that's like? To be constantly surrounded by other children, waiting to see if your mum or dad will come for you, doubting if anyone even loves you, doubting yourself and wondering if you are somehow to blame for being in a children's home? But this book isn't just about how hard abandoned children have it; it's also about hope and the fact that if you know what you want, your dreams can come true. Because Veronika is making her dreams come true, even though she got a D in physics.
