The sequel to the global phenomenon – the Remembrance of Earth's Past series – from China's best sci-fi author
The long-hidden truth about a planned alien invasion, set to occur in four hundred years, has finally been revealed, and Earth is reeling from the shock. Although the traitors and collaborators have been scattered, the Trisolarans' subatomic spies, the sophons, are still active on Earth. There is no hiding from them, and through them, the enemy learns of humanity's most secret defence plans instantly. There is only one place the sophons cannot see – the human mind.
The United Nations therefore introduces the world to four individuals in whom it places its last, desperate hope: three respected thinkers, military leaders, and strategists, and one ordinary, second-rate sociologist. Luo Ji finds himself at the centre of global attention, with no idea why he has been chosen or what is expected of him. All he knows is that he is the only person on Earth the Trisolarans fear.
What they're saying about The Dark Forest
"A breakthrough book… A unique blend of scientific and philosophical speculation, conspiracy theory and cosmology."
George R. R. Martin on The Three-Body Problem
"As the intrigues multiply and the Trisolarans draw ever nearer, The Dark Forest upends many of the expectations of Anglophone sci-fi readers."
LA Review of Books
"A complex puzzle box of a book, with a well-developed protagonist and high stakes, all set in a transcendent environment. The Dark Forest is a better book in every way than The Three-Body Problem—and The Three-Body Problem was amazing."
Tor.com
"The plot centers on Cixin's dark, rather gloomy, but utterly convincing philosophy, with dazzling ideas and a disconcerting, nonlinear, almost non-narrative structure that requires patience but offers huge rewards. Again, a very impressive, must-read book."
