Denis Diderot: Nun

In letters addressed to the Marquise de Croismare, Susan Simonin, barely 23 years old, begs for help in a difficult life situation. She hopes that this virtuous nobleman will listen to her and finally succeed in softening the blows of her cruel fate. With sincere effort, she describes to him the events of her life behind the walls of the monasteries she has passed through during her lifetime, and the simple longing for being outside the monastery. The authentically conceived story of a nun, it seems at times naive and touching, which is the author's masterful intention. Diderot is present in the text, for many of the plots and pitfalls of fate that his heroine overcomes are so bizarre that one can detect the author's ironic tone behind them. This classic work of world literature, published posthumously in 1796, is continued in the radio reading with an appendix by Denis Diderot, in which he explains the reasons that led him to write this scandalous work.
