Disease of the thoracic aorta
Serious aortic diseases, such as aortic aneurysms or dissections, if not treated promptly and adequately, often have devastating consequences for their sufferers. The occurrence of these diseases cannot be considered rare; aortic aneurysms occur in 4–9% of patients over 50 years of age, and the annual incidence of dissection is 10/100,000 inhabitants. Most doctors will encounter them during their professional lives. Nevertheless, there is still no book available to the Czech reader that would comprehensively summarize current knowledge on the issue.
The monograph by Associate Professor Rohn, Professor Grus and the author team summarizes knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, examination methods, and treatment options and algorithms from the perspective of cardiovascular surgery and invasive radiology. In more detail, separate chapters deal with individual pathologies, which in the case of a hernia are divided according to localization, i. e. into the ascending, aortic arch and thoracoabdominal aorta, in the case of dissection into the section dealing with classifications and then type A and B dissection.
The publication is intended for experts in the field of cardiology, cardiovascular surgery and invasive radiology. It is of interest to general practitioners who encounter patients with severe aortic disease in the front line, as well as to intensive care physicians and paramedics who are often forced to recognize the disease in its acute phase and initiate the first, often life-saving, treatment steps.
