Endlessly long afternoon
It's the summer of 1959 and the perfectly manicured lawns of California's Sunnylakes are wilting under the hot sun. Sometime during one interminably long afternoon, Joyce Haney, wife and mother, disappears from her home, leaving behind only two terrified children and a bloodstain on the kitchen floor.
The Haneys' neighbors are horrified by the incident. They do what they can, organize search parties and try to find Joyce. But someone else holds the key to the disturbing mystery that has shaken the foundations of their American dream. Someone who could shake them up even more in the eyes of the Sunnylakes.
Ruby Wright, the black maid at the Haney house, who commutes to them from the slum ghetto, You know, that nothing's wrong, as it appears at first glance. All those friendly people, living in beautiful houses, secretly looking out from behind starched curtains, have secrets. And she knows more about those secrets than anyone.
That's why it doesn't take long for Detective Mick Blank, who is in charge of the investigation, to ask for her help. But what will it cost him? And what price will she pay if she agrees to his request?
During the endless hot afternoons, seething with deception, distrust and prejudice, a single spark is enough to bring the perfect Sunnylakes dream to ashes.
