English for physiotherapists

The author draws on her pedagogical experience that in order to remember and be able to actively use the vocabulary again, students need to encounter the vocabulary in other textual (or just sentence) contexts and be encouraged to use it in this way through various exercises.

Exercises may include: a) filling in a missing word in a sentence, b) determining a synonymous expression (word and phrase) in a sentence, c) describing a certain phenomenon, body part, attitude, etc. on the basis of a pen drawing (e.g. anterior pelvic tilt), d) on the basis of a longer definition of a certain physiotherapeutic phenomenon, determining a defined word (at the same time practicing reading comprehension), (e) correcting an error in a physiotherapy sentence, f) determining a word among several others, that are clearly different from the others, (g) questions on the content of the chapters, h) short translations of complete sentences, containing important verbal phraseology, not only the substantive terms, i) drills on certain links or words (repetition of a word in 5–6 minimal contexts, Students just repeat after the teacher or read aloud during self-study, j) on the basis of supplementary shorter texts with the content of the relevant chapter, practice reading comprehension – answering yes/no questions, multiple choice, etc.
