The enormous Hawaiian volcano Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano on the planet. The locals say that when the earth shakes and lava bursts from the summit, the volcano is speaking to them. But now it seems the gigantic volcano is about to scream at the top of its lungs. The local volcanic observatory, led by experienced volcanologist John MacGregor, estimates that the most destructive eruption of all time is imminent, one that could completely destroy the largest Hawaiian island. But even that is secondary compared to the terrifying military secret hidden on the island.
The legendary Michael Crichton unfortunately never finished his epic 'volcano' novel, but luckily, another highly successful author of thrillers and detective stories, James Patterson, stepped in to complete it.
A film adaptation is currently being prepared by Steven Spielberg.
