Evil under the sun

"I'm here to enjoy my holiday. I don't think about crime at all."

Hercule Poirot thought he would be enjoying a well-deserved holiday on a quiet island off the English Channel, but the murder of former actress Arlene Marshall has thwarted his plans. Instead of swimming in the sea, catching bronze, boating or relaxing under an umbrella, he is drawn into the investigation. But who had motive to murder the beauty? Well, pretty much everyone. Whether out of love, hatred, jealousy or the desire for money.

Agatha Christie

The English novelist, best known for her detective stories, wrote 33 novels and nearly 60 short stories with Hercule Poirot alone during her nearly 60-year literary career. She also created other detective characters (besides Miss Marple, such as the mysterious Mr. Quin or the retired clerk Parker Pyne), but Poirot remains her best-known and best-loved investigator. She was also successful as a playwright (her The Mousetrap is the longest running play ever) and published romantic stories under a pseudonym. The steady interest in her work is also confirmed by the number of adaptations that have already been made or are in the pipeline, including a new film version of Murder on the Orient Express.

Lukáš Hlavica

He is a graduate of acting at the DAMU in Prague, where he has been teaching for the last twenty years. In addition to acting and teaching, he has been a successful theatre and radio director. He has worked with Czech Radio for many years, worked at the National Theatre and the Vinohrady Theatre, and then for four years as a director at the Dejvice Theatre (his production of The Brothers Karamazov ran for almost 15 years). Television viewers could see it e.g. in the films Chef's Special, You're the Killer, Clairvoyant, and in the series The Waste Land, where he played the main character's old friend. He has dubbed a large number of film and TV series characters (the protagonist of Mr Selfridge speaks in Czech).
