One of the most famous throat cases in history inspired Friedrich Schiller to write the tragedy Mary Stuart. The result is a psychological drama about the desire for power, love and freedom, in which two humanly and morally equally strong personalities collide and are treated differently by fate. Directed by Lída Engelová, Jana Preissová as the unfortunate Marie and Dana Syslová as Queen Elizabeth will clash in an acting duel. Friedrich Schiller based his play on the story of Mary Stuart and Elizabeth Tudor in 1800. And of course, as a poet, he unembarrassedly elevated the truth of the poetic drama above the historical truth, thus enriching the theatrical repertoire with a riveting clash of two opposing female personalities that continue to fascinate audiences even in the 21st century.
