Addictionology is a multidisciplinary field that focuses on the prevention, treatment and research of substance use and other potentially addictive behaviours, their impact on individuals and society, and the social reintegration of those who suffer as a result of such behaviours. Clinical addictionology narrows the focus to topics relevant to direct client work. It is "treatment" in a broader sense, which includes not only medical services but all specialized services provided to current or former drug users in connection with their use of psychotropic substances, i.e. various types of outpatient treatment and services, inpatient care, residential treatment in therapeutic communities, low-threshold services aimed at reducing the risks of drug abuse, treatment and services in prison, etc. The book "Fundamentals of Clinical Addictionology" is the only publication of its kind on the market and presents the field in all its aspects.
