Hangman's Vineyard

The final part of the Chronicle of the Soapmakers trilogy. Jan Mydlář passes on his trade to his son Ondřej and desires only one thing - to protect his granddaughter from the scorn that falls on the descendants of the executioners.

In the last part of the executioner's chronicle, Jan Mydlář hands over his bloody trade to his son Ondřej and devotes himself to his vineyard and his beloved medicine. Although he has built a reputation as a near-miracle doctor who has cured many sick and injured people, even from wealthy families, he desires only one thing - to save his granddaughter from the scorn that falls on the descendants of executioners.

He eventually succeeds with the help of a wealthy Venetian merchant, whom he has rid of a dangerous disease, and a former nun, Joan, who takes refuge with him. The author also weaves into the story other plot lines about silver thieves and Lichtenstein's manipulations with coinage.
