He portrayed the Queen of England

The fascinating story of the sculptor of the royal family Franta Belsky The story of the Czech sculptor Franta Bělský, who was the only Czech to have the honour of portraying the royal family, not only Elizabeth II herself, but also the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen Mother and Prince William. Who was the Czech sculptor of Elizabeth II? This is answered by the E Prize-winning audiobook Portrait of the Queen of England. E. Kisch for nonfiction in the field of popularization. Few people know that Franta Bělský (1921-2000), born in Brno, was the only sculptor in the world who portrayed four generations of the royal family during the Second Elizabethan era. His model at Buckingham Palace was not only the monarch herself, but also her husband Prince Philip. At Kensington Palace he played with little Prince William during portraits, was twice commissioned by the House of Windsor to immortalise Prince Andrew, and played music with the much-loved Queen Mother in the studio while he worked. But the road to this was a tortuous one. Because of his Jewish origin, his family had to flee from Hitler from Prague to England, and he himself fought in the trenches. The rest of his relatives perished in the Holocaust in concentration camps. When he returned to Czechoslovakia as a soldier, he managed to create the now iconic plaque to the paratroopers of the Anthropoid parachute drop on the St. Cyril and Methodius. Then he had to flee to England again because of the Communist coup. There are other statues of him in the islands at the entrance to the Prime Minister's residence in Downing Street, in Trafalgar Square in London, and in the USA in Fulton in front of the Churchill Museum. Let yourself be guided through the story, which is not lacking in humour thanks to Belsky's wife Margaret, who was the only woman in Fleet Street in the 1950s to have the front page of a mass-circulation newspaper for her sketches.
