History of Dune - Servant Jihad

The Atreides and the Harkonnens were allies in ancient times. That's when the history of Dune began...

The ossified Old Empire was once overthrown by a mere twenty determined conspirators protected by robotic helpers. However, the rule of the Titans, as the rebels called themselves, did not last long. Although they had shed their mortal shells and become kymeks - eternal minds controlling mechanical bodies - they could not resist the growing power of thinking machines. The computer omniscience that came to be called Omnius has conquered most of the known universe and made the kymeks its most dangerous warriors. This has been the case for a thousand years, and yet a handful of human planets - the League of the Sublime - continue to defy the overwhelming odds of the robot-controlled Synchronized Worlds. Two extraordinary young men also make a significant contribution to the fierce war: Xavier Harkonnen and Vorian Atreides, whose different fates are linked by their love for the same woman. To the woman whose courage sparked the human slave revolt against Omnius, a rebellion called the Servant Jihad...

The story of the desert planet Arrakis did not end with the author's untimely death. The relentless interest of readers prompted his son Brian to team up with Kevin J. Anderson and brought his father's fascinating world to life again. The History of Dune trilogy, which opens with the novel The Servant Jihad, is set roughly 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides.

The authors have followed up the late writer's novels and notes with a stunning work full of interesting references and information, much of which appears here for the first time.

Not knowing that History of Dune wasn't written by Frank Herbert himself, I wouldn't know.
