The sixth part of the historical saga Hussite Epic by Vlastimil Vondruška
The penultimate part of the whole saga represents the years when the Czech king George of Poděbrady was at the peak of his power. It was at that time that he managed to break the resistance of the neighbouring countries of the Bohemian Crown. But the strengthening of the power of the monarch, who bore the mark of a heretic in the eyes of the rest of Europe, meant an intensification of the pressure against him. And as several times in the past, the Pope's policy succeeded in pitting the King of Hungary against the Bohemian lands. But Jiří of Poděbrady was not only a skilful warrior, but also an extremely skilful diplomat. Moreover, he had to constantly struggle with the domestic opposition of the Catholic-minded nobility and the demands of the Church.
The sixth part of the epic ends with the death of George of Poděbrady. In an environment of struggle and intrigue, members of the second generation of the Prokop family gradually die and their children and grandchildren take their place. Their world, however, is no longer filled with the original ideals of the Caliche movement, but with a pragmatic struggle for wealth and status. In many cases, however, it is also the pursuit of simple human happiness. The story takes us to Prague again, Sand, Pilsen and other cities, but also to the Rožmberk and Poděbrady estates, to Upper Hungary, Rome and, together with the message of the Bohemian king, to other countries.
