Jan Vedral: Delphi

Vedral's "consumer Oedipus for the late 1980s", as the play's subtitle reads, seemingly builds on the confrontation between the tragic greatness of the ancient hero and the tragicomic smallness of his contemporary counterpart with a capital H at the beginning of his surname. However, Vedral achieves the play's topicality by making the individual's journey of self-discovery a means to a more general attempt to diagnose society. Jan Vedral - as he has done several times before - was inspired by the artistic legacy of the past. But he wrote a distinctive one, a distinctive radio play, which again is, that it's not just a game from the present, but also about the present and about us, contemporaries. Persons and cast: author (Pavel Soukup) choir (Viktor Preiss), Josef Hrdina, hero (Vladimir Brabec), Jiřina Hrdinová, his wife (Blanka Bohdanová), Marie Holá, his mistress (Eva Hudečková), Dr. Svatý (Eduard Cupák), engineer Rous (Martin Stropnický), Kamen (Josef Vinklář), voice on the phone (Miroslav Wednesday). Directed by: Jiří Horčička
