Jiří Šotola: Autumn in a garden restaurant
A bitterly ironic novel about late love, loneliness and the last things of man, expressing a plebeian philosophy of life. On the surface, the novel takes the form of the professor's personal notes, supplemented by several letters to his friend Laca. The meaning and purpose of the records is as uncertain as Flanderk's entire life. The final part of the free trilogy is Šotola's last prose. It was written shortly before his death, at a time when he was already seriously ill, and is probably his most personal prose. For Šotola, the only guarantee of humanity has always been the so-called. a small man, entering the history books at most as part of an anonymous mass. It reads: Josef Vinklář.
