Kind people
“He wants to kill us…” That was the last sentence Key Hammond wrote before she died. And those few words were enough for her son – a Metropolitan Police detective – to change his life completely. He leaves for a few months to go to the place where his mother lived and starts to investigate. At first, there's nothing to suggest this could be the most complex, yet most bizarre case of his career, but the horrifying facts that gradually emerge, not only from the distant past, prove otherwise.
Why are some elderly people in the town of Egerton suddenly dying? What is hidden in Devil's Gorge? Is the terror that gripped the town forty years ago returning? Is the person who started the fire that burned twenty people to death back then returning? Is Gordon May back? Or is everything different? How will John Hammond handle the pretence, the threats, and the heartless behaviour? Who wants to get rid of him and who won't let him fall to the bottom of the gorge?
The detective is fumbling in the dark for a long time, falling into despair. After all, he is surrounded by nothing but good people…
