Laboratory testing in clinical practice

This monograph by a team of authors from various laboratory and clinical medicine specialities provides an overview of the most commonly indicated laboratory markers, their pathophysiological consequences and clinical interpretation – a guide on how to understand laboratory results. The authors draw on their many years of real laboratory and clinical practice.

The text is divided into two main parts: general and special. The general part is divided into a brief description of the pre-analytical phase, i.e., the factors that can influence the quality of the result before the actual measurement. The subsequent main section deals with the individual sets of haematological, biochemical, serological, immunological and microbiological laboratory tests. For clarity and better understanding, the book is presented in the form of short texts, tables and graphs.

In the special part, the mentioned markers are interpreted within the framework of comprehensive case studies.
The publication is supplemented by a set of less frequently indicated (specialised) tests with a reference to where and under what conditions these tests are available, an overview of reference ranges and the price (point value) of selected commonly indicated tests.
The publication is intended for a broad medical community, especially clinical, across specialities. It is beneficial for undergraduate and postgraduate studies as well as for medical students.
