Life and Other Inconveniences

A book about the wonder of the extraordinary in everyday life…

A book unassuming in its title, form and content, yet one that offers the reader a uniquely cohesive world. A world that is witty, joyful and harmonious, though often full of surprises and minor setbacks. It is composed of authentic Facebook statuses, which the author perceives as a distinctive literary form. It is a book about the wonder of the extraordinary in everyday life.

The short texts are arranged into thematic cycles and map the author's daily life, from charming displays of feminine vanity, through experiences with travelling, sports, and reading, to her passion for her work as an editor and translator, and even raising children and deeper reflections on the paradoxes of life. The author never abandons a light self-irony; her humour isn't boisterously explosive but quiet and subtle, lingering all the longer in the reader's subconscious.

The world of Michaela Škultéty is a world where the reader will gladly linger, returning to their own reality refreshed and full of a smiling, restrained optimism.
