Melog
E-book, Czech
Melog
The novel Melog is at once a mysterious thriller, a kind and cruel satire on the value of knowledge in society, and above all, prose brimming with linguistic and situational humor. Melog is a novel about friendship and love, but also about their opposites, about hatred and resentment. The Czech translation of this Cymraeg novel is only the second of its kind in the entire history of Czech translation – an undertaking that provides the Czech reading public with a unique opportunity to become acquainted with the work of Michael Morgan, one of Great Britain' s leading writers. If readers haven' t heard of Mr. Morgan yet, they will surely remember Diana, Princess of Wales, whose husband Charles learned the ancient language - also known as Welsh - but is said to have never spoken it properly. Perhaps you can even meet Charles and Diana in the book.
Dr. Jones lives a sedentary life, dedicated to study and reading. But one morning, the aging scholar' s life is turned upside down. On a Saturday walk through his hometown in southern Kymerland, he meets Melog, an immigrant from the distant, unknown country of Laxaria, under truly dramatic circumstances, suffering under the yoke of a cruel occupation. Dr. Jones takes in the strange young man. And not only is Melog' s appearance strange, but also his unconventional behavior, which both he and Dr. Jones will encounter all sorts of troubles, unwanted adventures, and encounters with a variety of not always friendly individuals, from religious fanatics, saints, and seers to drug addicts and bloodthirsty gangsters. While reading, we recommend that the kind reader be served black tea or strong coffee and good old British fish-and-chips, with at least enough vinegar to drown the entire Salvation Army.
