The textbook summarizes the basic knowledge from the fields of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene, which are highly interrelated fields. In the first part of the publication, the individual microorganisms, their structure and functioning, and then the possible responses of the macroorganism to a pathogenic stimulus are divided and described.

The hygiene chapter focuses on the various sub-sectors of this sector, in particular the hygiene of healthcare facilities and its importance in the prevention of nosocomial infections.
