Murder, Intrigue and Investigation
Chief Inspector Ledecky from the Homicide Department of the Bratislava Police Headquarters is haunted by bad dreams and a disordered private life. To do this, he is to investigate a suspected murder brought to him by a colleague from the Economic Crime Unit on the basis of intelligence information. He knows the identity of the possible victim, but he doesn't have the corpse. How do you solve a murder when you don't have a body? Moreover, is it even murder? After all, isn't this just a preemptive disappearance of the occasional autistic person with hot ground under their feet to warmer climes? Almost simultaneously with the first case, an explosion and a fire in an off-road vehicle interrupted a promising deer hunt. Firefighters find a body in the burned wreckage, to which police do not yet know the identity. A search is underway to match a name to the victim's body or to find the body to a known name. This first step is a necessary prerequisite for uncovering the killer or killers. Is this a single case or just a coincidence? Are the acts connected or unconnected? Chief Inspector Ledecký and his team, reinforced by a young, promising criminal Jakub Koreis, are looking for answers to these and other questions that are strung throughout the story. Dedication and professionalism, as well as unprofessional failure, will force criminals to use all available forms of operational work, up to and including the deployment of a police agent in such a hostile environment as a detention facility. Murder with Added Value is a crime story set in the present day and loosely based on the author's first novel, The Raven's Trial.
In this book, Václav Neuer also draws on his experience from the daily work of police officers in solving the most serious crimes and the workings of the underworld.
