Mysterious stories of life and death
This publication presents three short works by Russian classical authors, linked by the theme of mysticism and mystery in human life. It is designed for intermediate Russian students who want to expand their language skills in an unusual way. The book contains adapted versions of the short stories 'Werewolves' by A. K. Tolstoy, 'After Death (Clara Milich)' by I. S. Turgenev, and 'He' by L. N. Andreyev. These abridged and suitably adapted versions are an excellent choice for readers who are not yet familiar with the specific linguistic style of Russian classical literature from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Inside the publication you will find:
- abridged and suitably adapted short stories in the original language,
- a parallel Czech translation,
- commentary on grammatical and lexical points that appear in the text,
- notes on Russian culture and society,
- comprehension tests at the end of each short story.
The stories tell of extraordinary, often terrifying or mysterious events that will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat and send a shiver down your spine as you read. But don’t let that put you off – it's the perfect way to lift the veil on the enigmas and secrets of the Russian language.
