On the trails
Can you fit a halo into a sleeping bag? Is it possible to write romantic literature in the middle of a Scottish peat bog? What do sheep think about our future? How was the Czech Trail created, and did it just happen by itself? Why shouldn't trekkers stay in five-star hotels? And why should people look at the stars more? An award-winning story about hiking in the mountains, romance, and expeditions led by a rubber chicken.
Outdoor fiction: a new literary genre written from the perspective of a hiker who hasn't eaten for three days and whose senses are more of a reference point than anything else.
“When I was about seventeen, I got my hands on a book called Malevil by Robert Merle. In the story, he tells of how one evening some boys run away and climb a high rock with a view of the valley. At night, they watch the cars below, their headlights carving a winding path through the darkness as they hurry towards their destination. The boys watch them from above on the rock, far away, in a completely different world. For me, these are the moments that make going to the mountains worthwhile. When you look down from them in the evening at the life in the valleys, at the twinkling lights of the villages far below and the cities in the distance, and all around you are more mountains that you look up to, excited to venture into them tomorrow. It's about those moments when you are exactly where you want to be, when you want to be there, and with whom you want to be there.”
