Petr Zídek: Hana Benešová
Who could have guessed that Anička, the child of the railway clerk Vlček, would one day become the First Lady of the Republic, Hana Benešová? A fateful meeting with Edvard Beneš in Paris changes everything. Anna becomes Hana and in the autumn of 1909 Edvard Beneš marries her in St. Ludmilla in Prague at Vinohrady. By marriage, he will not only get a devoted wife, but also an efficient co-worker. Her extraordinary life story was written by historian and journalist Petr Zídek. In the Radiokniza you will also learn about the life of Hana Benešová after the death of Edvard Beneš in September 1948, her brief return to public life in 1968 and her death in the winter of 1974, which capped the story of a woman who is still considered to be an unrivalled role model of the First Lady. It reads: Helena Dvořáková
