Pollyanna

"Eleven-year-old Pollyanna lives only with her daddy, and when she loses him, her aunt, who lives on the opposite coast of America, takes her in. The arduous train journey cannot spoil Pollyanna's eloquence or the hopes she has for her new home. She may have a rough start living with her strict-looking aunt, but Pollyanna is a born optimist and her enthusiasm infects everyone she meets. But even Pollyanna can't prescribe her own fate. When tragedy strikes, her character is tested and she is forced to find something to fall back on. Fortunately, in her time of great suffering, the friends she has made through her character rally around her. This beautiful, heart-warming narrative is one of the most celebrated girls' stories of all time. Readers urged the author for so long that she gradually created several other stories with the same, only slightly older heroine. "
